Running of the Daytona 500 is Sunday

The Daytona International Speedway will be the epicenter of motorsports racing through this weekend culminating with the Daytona 500, starting at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Daytona Beach Police Department will have special traffic patterns for the races through the weekend as needed to help with the flow of traffic.

If you’re not going to the races, we recommend avoiding the roads around Daytona International Speedway when possible, especially International Speedway Boulevard (U.S. 92). We expect heavy traffic between Clyde Morris Boulevard and Williamson Boulevard.

For roadway and traffic details, visit www.dbpd.us and follow @DBPDTraffic on Twitter.

Commissioners to meet Wednesday, Feb. 17

The next meeting for the City Commission will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, at City Hall. The meeting agenda is online and includes a public hearing to adjust utility fees, to include a refund of deposits for residential accounts with timely payments for 24 consecutive months.

The adjustments were recommended following a water and wastewater rate and strategic planning study the city had completed by Raftelis, a utility and public-sector consulting firm. If approved, rates would be effective on bills issued on or after Oct. 1. More information about the report can be found online.

Residents can sign up to receive city meeting agendas via email or text message by clicking on “Notify Me” on the city’s website, www.codb.us. Special procedures to allow remote and in-person public participation at city meetings continue to be in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. To review the procedures, visit www.codb.us.

The meeting will be on DBTV, which can be accessed from www.codb.us/DBTV, and Spectrum Channel 490.
