Ceremony to recognize 20th Anniversary of 9/11 is Saturday

Join us for a special ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of Sept. 11 beginning at 9 a.m. this Saturday at Fire Station #1 located at 301 S. Beach St.
 
As part of the ceremony, Mayor Derrick Henry will present a proclamation and City Manager Deric C. Feacher will speak, followed by a Fire Responder Remembrance by Police Chief Jakari Young and closing remarks by Fire Chief Dru Driscoll.

Dante’s Dream and Mackenzie Newton perform Saturday night
The city sponsored Midtown Music Concert Series continues in September at Daisy Stocking Park.
 
This Saturday night enjoy music under the stars with Dante’s Dream and Mackenzie Newton. Dante’s Dream includes Christopher Clarke (keyboard), Wayne Pollock (bass), Farid Rashid (percussion), Robb Smith (drums) and Gregory Steel (guitar).
 
Daisy Stocking Park is located at 550 Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd. Food and drink vendors will be onsite. Attendees can bring their own chairs; however, coolers are not allowed.
 
SAVE the date – Sept. 25: Chris Clarke and Friends
Chris Clarke will be performing with Randy Bordon and Dimas Sanchez at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25. Clarke studied at The Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music and Berklee College of Music. Clarke was mentored by Kansas City artists including Claude “Fiddler” Williams, Frank Smith, Elbert James “Coots” Dye and Ahmad Aladeen. Bordon is a multi-genre bass player who studied at the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory in Havana, Cuba. Sanchez is a drummer and percussionist who integrates Puerto Rican folklore with jazz, blues and other musical styles.  
 
Additional concert sponsors include AdventHealth, VyStar Credit Union, Vitas Health Care and U-Store Daytona Beach.

COVID-19 testing and vaccines available 

Testing available at Midtown Community Center
The city has partnered with private provider Curative, the health department and the county to offer COVID-19 testing for Volusia County residents at the Midtown Community Center located at 925 George W. Engram Blvd.
 
The self-collected, shallow nasal PCR test is available for symptomatic and asymptomatic people ages one year and older (results within 2-4 days). The mobile testing site is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments are preferred; however, walk-ups are welcome.
 
Appointments can be made at (888) 702-9042 or online at www.curative.com. There is no charge for the test, but patients will be asked for health insurance information. Patients without health insurance will not be turned away.

Grab your favorite board games and head to Daisy Stocking Park for an adults-only Game Night from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18. Presented by Commissioner Paula R. Reed and City Manager Deric C. Feacher, this is a great opportunity for neighbors to meet one another and socialize.
 
There will be a DJ, food and beverage concessions and door prizes will be given throughout the evening. This event is for entertainment purposes; therefore, no gambling will be allowed. Daisy Stocking Park is located at 550 Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd.

If you or someone is looking for employment, there will be a Job Opportunity Fair beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, at the Windsor Apartments located at 524 S. Beach St. in Daytona Beach. The Job Fair is sponsored by the Housing Authority of Daytona Beach, Gibraltar Construction Co. and BGC Advantage.
