Dangerous boats removed from intracoastal waterway

Derelict boats removed from intracoastal waterway

All unsightly and abandoned boats in the Halifax River within the city’s limits have been safely removed and on their way to the landfill. Removing more than 30 derelict boats has been a multiyear, collective effort between the Permits and Licensing division and the Police Department.

With the boats gone, the city focus will shift to removing the nearly 40 dilapidated docks along the Halifax River and other waterfront structure issues. Damaged docks and submerged pilings can become hazards for boaters and can negatively impact property values.

Free Little Libraries
Parents are reminded to take advantage of the Free Little Library program available at the city’s community centers! The concept is simple – bring a book, take a book. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.), Midtown Cultural & Educational Center (925 George W. Engram Blvd.) and Yvonne Scarlett-Golden Cultural & Educational Center (1000 Vine St.). To donate books to help keep these libraries full, call Vincent Terry at (386) 671-5830.

Make sure to keep pollutants out of storm drains

If you are making business or home improvements this summer, make sure chemicals, paint and plaster don’t go down the drain. These pollutants can harm the environment and our local waterways. Do your part to help keep Daytona Beach beautiful and only let rain go down the drain.
