Weekend concerts continue at the Daytona Beach BandshellEnjoy music by the ocean at this weekend’s free concerts at the Daytona Beach Oceanfront Bandshell. Friday, Aug. 19: The Wildflowers, a tribute to Tom Petty, with Bluefield Acoustic Duo opening The international touring band The Wildflowers are America’s number one tribute to Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. One of these fellow musicians just happened to be Tom Petty’s doppelganger, guitarist and lead vocalist Jonathan Guthrie. Guthrie was an avid fan and had always fantasized about being a Heartbreaker. As two seasoned musicians and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers fans, there was really only one thing for them to do – form a Tom Petty tribute band. Opening up for The Wildflowers is Bluefield Acoustic Duo starring Florida natives, Matt Fansher and Tim Makrush, who have been in the local music scene separately for many years. Fansher is a classically trained guitarist who has played solo all around Central Florida. He possesses smooth vocals reminiscent of Jack Johnson/Dave Matthews with a twist of his own originality. Makrush has been a member of various duos and bands. He was a founding member of Flatline and even shared billings alongside major acts including Shinedown. Bluefield was formed in 2011 and they cover music from all genres and timeframes. Saturday, Aug. 20: Turnstiles, a tribute to Billy Joel Fireworks will follow the Saturday performance at 9:45 p.m. The Star Spangled Summer Concert Series presented by Boardwalk Merchants and Friends of the Bandshell will welcome Turnstiles, a tribute to Billy Joel, to the stage Saturday night, which will be followed by the Bud Light – Lights Up Daytona fireworks display over the ocean. You can expect to rock out to hits including “Only the Good Die Young,” “Piano Man,” “New York State of Mind,” “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me,” “Allentown,” “She’s Got a Way,” “She’s Always a Woman,” “Uptown Girl,” “We Didn’t Start the Fire” and “You May be Right.” All concerts start at 7:15 p.m. There will be food trucks and vendors on site. The Bandshell summer concerts are free to the public with the option to purchase VIP seats for $10 plus applicable surcharges. Guests are welcome to bring their own chairs to the concerts or purchase VIP tickets, which include a seat.
