Daytona Spring Turkey Run, March 24-26

Celebrate the 33rd annual Daytona Spring Turkey Run and view thousands of classic cars on display. The event is from Friday, March 24, through Sunday, March 26, at Daytona International Speedway. Visitors can enjoy swap meet vendors, handmade art, crafts and fashion – all perfect for family fun!

City Commission Strategic Planning Session

City commissioners will convene at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 28 to discuss short- and long-term priorities and goal setting. The meeting is at the Yvonne Scarlett-Golden Center, 1000 Vine Street in Daytona Beach. Results from a recent citizen survey and last night's Citizens Engagement Roundtable will be presented to the City Commission followed by open discussion by the seven-member elected body, which will be facilitated by leadership consultant Dr. Joe Saviak.

Community workshop about Linkage Fee Study

Permit and inspection fees waived in city core area

To promote neighborhood improvement and beautification, as well as to spur private investment in the core of the city, building permit and inspection fees are being waived for commercial and residential properties within the borders of Mason Avenue to Shady Place and Nova Road to Ridgewood Avenue.

Eligible projects include, but are not limited to, interior renovations, replacing or repairing a roof, adding fencing, improving or adding a driveway and adding windows or doors. Ineligible projects include, but are not limited to, building a new structure separate from an existing building or any new single-family home.

Permit applications are available online and can also be picked up at the Permits and Licensing office at City Hall located at 301 S. Ridgewood Ave. Completed applications can be dropped off at Permits and Licensing from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, faxed to (386) 671-8149 or emailed to Contact_PnL@codb.us. Shorelines and climate change presentation

Applications accepted for Biketoberfest vendors

The Daytona Beach Area Convention and Visitors Bureau is accepting vendor applications for Biketoberfest®, which is Oct. 19-22. The deadline for submission to be included in the Master Plan is Friday, April 21. The Master Plan is submitted to the City Commission for approval of the event’s outdoor activities, parking areas and vendors on private property. Learn about shorelines and climate change from respected expert

Join us at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 12 for an educational presentation by Dr. Robert S. Young, who is the director of Western Carolina University’s Program for the Study of Developed Shorelines. The presentation will be at the Yvonne Scarlett-Golden Cultural and Educational Center, 1000 Vine Street in Daytona Beach. Dr. Young will discuss how research into coastal processes, storm impacts, hazard vulnerability, and sea level rise is being translated into management, planning, and policy for coastal communities on the front lines of our growing climate crisis.

March Madness in Daytona Beach

The city is hosting pick-up basketball games for men 40 years and older at 5:30 to 8 p.m. every Monday at the indoor gym at the Cherry Community Center, 925 George W. Engram Blvd. Exercise, develop skills and enjoy friendly competition with other like-minded residents!
