Commissioner discussion followed staff presentations on the results of the recent citizen survey and last week’s Citizens Engagement Roundtable.

Register today for the Easter Beach RunRegistration is open for this year’s Easter Beach Run! This Easter-themed run/walk will be Saturday, April 8, on the beach. Participants of all ages and fitness levels can enjoy a scenic view while traveling out and back for the 2-mile or 4-mile run/walk. Kids can participate in the 1/4-mile race, 50- and 100-yard dashes. New this year, the races will start on the beach behind Breakers Oceanfront Park at 13 S. Atlantic Ave. Kids’ races start at 3:30 p.m. and the 2-mile/4-mile run/walk starts at 4 p.m. This year’s race is limited to 750 participants who will receive a t-shirt and custom medal. Youth baseball clinics continueBaseball clinics for youth continue to be offered at the Derbyshire Park & Sports Complex at 849 Derbyshire Road. The clinics are for youth ages 4 to 12, and teach baseball skills including hitting, catching, throwing and pitching. Clinics are from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. through Thursday, April 6. The clinics are free; however, registration is required. The city will begin its youth baseball league in April. Teams will be selected at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 6, at Derbyshire Park & Sports Complex. Registration for the league is $40.

Blue Moon kicks off Midtown Music Concert Series in April The city sponsored, free Midtown Music Concert Series kicks off Saturday, April 15, at Cypress Park with a performance by Orlando-based Blue Moon. Playing a jazz fusion/funk and soul sound, they offer tight grooves, electric sounds and songs that get people in the groove. They are a five-piece band consisting of saxophone/vocals, keyboards, bass guitar, drums and percussion. Blue Moon has played many area festivals and venues including Sanford Porchfest, Juneteenth Jazz and Seafood Festival in Leesburg, Tibby’s Mardi Gras Festival, New Year’s Eve at Icon Park in Orlando, Cranes Roost Uptown Vibes backing April Brown and Bynx Orlando. The Midtown Music Concert Series brings the best area bands to Daytona Beach for performances from 7 to 9 p.m. at Cypress Park on select Saturday nights through September. Additional performances are scheduled for May 20, June 10, July 15, Aug. 19 and Sept. 16. In addition, attendees can enjoy free Line Dancing with Edra before the concerts from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Food and drink vendors will be onsite during the concerts. Attendees can bring their own lawn chairs. No coolers are allowed. Cypress Park is at 981 George W. Engram Blvd. This year’s sponsors of the Midtown Music Concert Series include Humana and United Healthcare.

Housing Fair & Financial Wellness Clinic, April 29Residents are invited to a free Housing Fair & Financial Wellness Clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at Allen Chapel AME Church at 580 George W. Engram Blvd. in Daytona Beach. There will be something for everyone at the clinic that is for home buyers, homeowners and renters.
Free credit reports and mini-classes/workshops covering financial literacy topics will be offered throughout the day. Tickets on sale Friday to see Air Supply at Peabody AuditoriumTickets will be available for purchase starting at 10 a.m. Friday, March 31, for soft rock duo, Air Supply, who will be performing at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 18, at Peabody Auditorium. Tickets will be available for purchase at the Peabody Box Office and online. Ticket prices range from $49.50 to $99.50 plus applicable surcharges. Air Supply was formed in 1975 with Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock. In 1980, "Lost in Love" became the fastest selling single in the world and was named song of the year. The pair's albums "Lost in Love," "The One That You Love," "Now & Forever" and "The Greatest Hits" have sold over 20 million copies. The trademark sound of Hitchcock's soaring tenor voice and Russell's simple, yet majestic, songs created a unique sound that would forever be known as Air Supply. In 2013, the duo was inducted into the Australian Recording Industry Association’s Hall of Fame.
