Blue Moon performs free concert Saturday nightThe city-sponsored, free Midtown Music Concert Series kicks off Saturday, April 15, at Cypress Park with a performance at 7 p.m. by Orlando-based Blue Moon. Playing a jazz fusion/funk and soul sound, they offer tight grooves, electric sounds and songs that will get people dancing. They are a five-piece band consisting of saxophone/vocals, keyboards, bass guitar, drums and percussion. Blue Moon has played many area festivals and venues including Sanford Porchfest, Juneteenth Jazz and Seafood Festival in Leesburg, Tibby’s Mardi Gras Festival, New Year’s Eve at Icon Park in Orlando, Cranes Roost Uptown Vibes backing April Brown and Bynx Orlando. Attendees can enjoy free Line Dancing with Eddra before the concert from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Food and drink vendors will be onsite during the concerts. Attendees can bring their own lawn chairs. No coolers are allowed. Cypress Park is at 981 George W. Engram Blvd. The Midtown Music Concert Series brings the best area bands to Daytona Beach for performances from 7 to 9 p.m. at Cypress Park on select Saturday nights through September. Additional performances are scheduled for May 20, June 10, July 15, Aug. 19 and Sept. 16. This year’s sponsors of the Midtown Music Concert Series are Humana and United Healthcare.

Mainland High School Champs Parade is April 20 on Beach StreetJoin us for the Mainland High School Champs Parade Thursday, April 20, as we congratulate the Bucs on their many athletic accomplishments this year including the women’s basketball team being crowned the Class 5A State Champion for the first time in school history! City participates in annual program to dispose of prescription drugs Residents can safely dispose unwanted, unused or expired prescription drugs between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, in the lobby of the Daytona Beach Police Department’s headquarters, 129 Valor Boulevard. The drop-off is part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, which is organized by the Drug Enforcement Agency. The service is free of charge with no questions asked.

Summer camp registration opens May 1The city's popular youth summer camp will begin Monday, June 5, and continue through Friday, Aug. 4. The 9-week program is for youth ages 5 to 16 and will be from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the following locations: - Cherry Cultural & Educational Center (925 George W. Engram Blvd.)
- Palm Terrace Elementary School (1825 Dunn Ave.)
- Schnebly Recreation Center (1101 N. Atlantic Ave.)
- Sunnyland Recreation Center (825 Washington St.)
- Turie T. Small Elementary School (800 South St.)
- Yvonne Scarlett-Golden Cultural & Educational Center (1000 Vine St.)
Breakfast and lunch, sports, crafts, field trips and games are provided at the summer camps. Registration is first come, first served and will open Monday, May 1, at City Hall (301 S. Ridgewood Ave.) in the Parks & Recreation office on the first floor. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Appointments are not required to register youth and the registration fee has been waived for this year. The cost for the summer camp is $270 per youth and there is a 10% discount for siblings. Annual fire hydrant maintenance begins Testing is underway on the city’s 2,724 fire hydrants. Each hydrant will be tested as part of a citywide annual maintenance program to ensure servable hydrants are fully functional. Hydromax USA is the company performing the annual maintenance and will be easily recognizable in uniforms and marked vehicles. Crews will begin on the beachside and work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting. Testing is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 30.

Register for swim lessonsJump into swim lessons at the city's aquatic centers! Registration is open for lessons, which are for youth ages 6 and older and adults. Lessons 30 minutes long and begin at 4:30 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday at Cypress Aquatic Center, 981 George W. Engram Blvd. and every Tuesday and Thursday at Campbell Aquatic Center, 410 S.
