Hurricane recovery grants remain available

There is still Hurricane Recovery Assistance Grant money remaining for qualified residents and businesses. Staff from the Redevelopment and Neighborhood Services department have been cavassing neighborhoods in the hardest hit areas to let residents know about the grant’s availability. The deadline for application is July 31. Awards will be made on a first-qualified, first-served basis until funds are depleted. For more information, call (386) 671-8124.

Road repaving continues in neighborhoods

Road repaving continues in neighborhoods

During this year, the city’s road resurfacing program has repaved nearly 22 lane miles of neighborhood streets. Starting this week, existing sidewalk intersections in the Fairway Estates subdivision are being made ADA compliant. In June, the following roads in the subdivision will be milled and resurfaced: 

  • Columbine Avenue 
  • Country Club Avenue
  • Golfview Drive
  • Iron Horse Road 
  • Manor Drive
  • Margina Avenue
  • Mollie Road
  • Peachtree Road
  • Royal Palm Avenue
  • Sunview Place
  • Suwanee Road
  • Townsend Avenue

Crews generally work 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and there may be temporary lane/road closures during paving operations.

Hurricane season starts June 1 and will continue through Nov. 30. Residents are encouraged to start thinking about the season early and take steps to be prepared, including: 

  • Sign up for City alerts
  • Follow us on social
  • Sign up for Nextdoor notifications
  • Know if you will evacuate if a storm threatens
  • Start gathering items for a disaster supply kit
  • Get an insurance checkup
Dog park now open at Colin’s Park

Dog park now open at Colin’s Park

A new dog park has recently opened at Colin’s Park, 100 University Blvd., to provide a fun and safe place for furry friends to play, thanks in part to Zone 2 Commissioner Ken Strickland. All dog breeds older than four months can enjoy the green open space and fresh air that this beachside park has to offer. 

Colin’s Park is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. April through November and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. December through March.

City basketball courts resurfaced and open

City basketball courts resurfaced and open

The city is continually making improvements in its parks and public spaces. Recently, two basketball courts have been resurfaced and are open for play. 

  • Dickerson Center: A new vinyl basketball floor has been installed and striped. The court is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday at 308 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.  
  • Schnebly Recreation Center: The center's two regulation-sized basketball courts have been resurfaced and painted. New hoops and poles with padding have been installed as well. The courts are open sunrise to sunset seven days a week at 1101 N. Atlantic Ave.

Registration is open for Daytona Beach Gymnastics 

Daytona Beach Gymnastics Spring B session is set to begin Monday, May 15. Youth athletes will learn basic gymnastics fundamentals, proper technique and teamwork in a fun and energetic environment. Offered for youth of all ages (preschool to teens), registration is open for the Spring B session, which continues through June 23 at Schnebly Recreation Center, 1101 N. Atlantic Ave. For more information call (386) 671-3561.
