CC signed agreement with US Army Corps of Engineers

City partners with U.S. Army Corps to address flooding in Midtown  

On Wednesday night, city commissioners unanimously approved a partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for a comprehensive flood control study. A team of 25 experts will join forces on this three-year, fully funded federal study. This collaborative effort aims to address flooding concerns in the area bounded by the Nova Canal, Orange Avenue, Ridgewood Avenue and Beville Road, an area susceptible to flooding during major storm events.

Register now for the inaugural Accelerate Business Summit, Feb. 24

City leaders are committed to fueling the entrepreneurial spirit within our community. To give aspiring business owners the knowledge and tools to be successful, a comprehensive business summit is planned for Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Yvonne Scarlett-Golden Cultural and Educational Center, 1000 Vine Street. Starting at 8 a.m., attendees will gain unparalleled access to resources, networking opportunities and knowledge-sharing sessions designed to fuel business growth and development. There is no cost to attend. An exciting feature of the summit will be a "Pitch Your Idea" competition. This initiative invites attendees to submit their business ideas for a future competition, where winners will receive prizes designed to help offset the costs of starting or growing their businesses.

Youth baseball program offers free clinics before season

Kids can hit it out of the park this spring by registering for the city's youth baseball (ages 7 to 12) or T-ball (ages 6 to 8) programs. Free clinics will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. throughout February and will focus on the fundamentals of baseball, teamwork and self-confidence. In March, teams will be selected followed by the regular season. Registration for the league is $40. Clinics, practices and games will be held at Derbyshire Sports Complex, 849 Derbyshire Road and Bethune Point Park, 11 Bellevue Ave.
