Demo of beachside water tanks Two elevated water tanks on the beachside are scheduled for demolition. The obsolete steel tanks were built in the 1950s and 60s and haven’t been used since the early 2000s when the city's drinking water system was upgraded. Large cranes will be used to carefully dismantle each tank, taking them down piece by piece. The tanks are located at 150 Thames Ave. and 126 University Ave., adjacent to Fire Station No. 3. |

City’s population increases 18% since 2020 census Recently released data from the University of Florida’s Bureau of Economic and Business Research estimates Daytona Beach’s current population to be 84,891. This is an increase of 13,403 residents from 2020’s census count of 71,488. These estimates are used for distributing state revenue-sharing dollars to cities and counties in Florida and for budgeting, planning and policy analysis by state and local government agencies, businesses, researchers, the media and members of the general public. |

A tentacled masterpiece emerges Artist Tiff Urquhart created a mesmerizing large-scale mural of a sea creature named The Kraken on the exterior wall of Permits & Licensing’s new training center at the marina. Another vibrant city-sponsored mural, "Still My Guitar Gently Leaps" at Total Entertainment on West International Speedway Boulevard, will be unveiled at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28. |
