Volusia County Fertilizer Rules in Effect Through Sept. 30To help protect our waterways during Florida’s rainy season, Volusia County’s fertilizer ordinance is in effect through Sept. 30. Fertilizer containing nitrogen or phosphorus may not be applied when rain is expected or falling. Outside of the blackout period, nitrogen fertilizer may only be used if it contains at least 50% slow-release nitrogen. Fertilizer must never be applied within 15 feet of any body of water. These rules help reduce nutrient runoff and protect our rivers, canals and the ocean.
