Henry hosted the inaugural Everyday Legends: Community Difference Makers Celebration at the Peninsula Club, where 48 residents were recognized as Impact Award recipients, everyday legends who embody Inspiration, Motivation, Purpose, Action, Commitment and Transformation (IMPACT). The new initiative honored unsung heroes who dedicate their time, talents and energy to making Daytona Beach a stronger, more vibrant community. Each honoree received a personalized note from the mayor, an IMPACT Award, and the opportunity to nominate future recipients and share their gratitude by writing appreciation notes to those who have supported their journey. Routine flushing of city waterStarting Monday, Sept. 1, the city will temporarily switch the disinfectant used in its water treatment process from chloramines to free chlorine. The city does this regularly to improve the quality of its drinking water. Disinfection is a crucial step in the water treatment process, ensuring that drinking water remains free from harmful microorganisms. During the disinfectant change, tap water remains safe to drink and use. Some customers, including those in South Daytona, may notice a stronger smell or taste for a few weeks. The disinfectant will return to chloramines on Sunday, Sept. 28. Here are a few tips to minimize the chlorine odor and taste: - Run the tap for a few minutes before using
- Refrigerate water in an open pitcher for several hours
- Add a slice of citrus or cucumber and let sit for several hours
Residents with questions concerning this procedure can call the water department at (386) 671-8815 or (386) 671-8009.
