Here are the key stories featured in today’s City Manager’s Update:

 

Utilities Crews Respond to Minimize Neighborhood Flooding

Utilities crews focused their efforts before and during last week’s heavy rainfall by clearing catch basins, removing debris from ditches, pumping down stormwater ponds, televising storm pipe in flood-prone areas and ensuring pump stations were operating at full capacity. Their proactive work reduced neighborhood flooding risks.

 

City Leaders Meet ESRI Founder
City Manager Deric C. Feacher, CIO Hossam Reziqa and GIS Administrator Ed Evanson met with Jack Dangermond, founder of ESRI, at the Central Florida GIS Workshop. They discussed the city’s plans and the importance of GIS in municipal operations.

 

Mayor’s Honor Program Returns
The Mayor’s Honor Program will celebrate its third year, honoring students for their academic success and strong character. The tradition continues with a red-carpet welcome, limousine ride and lunch with Mayor Henry. Thanks to PF Chang’s for signing on to support the program by offering free lunches.

 

Emergency Preparedness with Colleges
Emergency Manager Aaron Spencer and Volusia County EM Director Clint Mecham met with leaders from Bethune-Cookman University and Daytona State College to strengthen campus emergency plans and coordination. Spencer emphasized the importance of partnerships in preparedness.

 

Projects in Progress

  • A ribbon cutting for the restored Main Street Arch is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3
  • Boardwalk beach access ramps are ready to begin construction, with seawall work approved at Breakers Park
  • Cypress Park playground installation is nearly complete, featuring new play and fitness equipment
  • Years of grime are currently being removed from the Seabreeze Bridge

  • Artisan Market: Sept. 20, Oct. 18, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Yvonne Scarlett-Golden Center
  • Adult Game Night: Sept. 20, 7 p.m. at the Cherry Cultural & Educational Center
  • Volusia County’s 40th International Coastal Cleanup: Sept. 20, 8 a.m.
  • Fire Prevention Night: Oct. 3, 5 p.m. at Beach Street and Magnolia Ave.
