Here are highlights from today’s City Manager’s Update newsletter:

 

“Icons Pave the Way” Art Initiative

  • A new community-driven art project will honor nearly 100 historic athletic and community icons who helped shape our community.
  • The public is invited to a project reveal on Saturday, March 14, at the John H. Dickerson Community Center.

 County Beach Survey

  • Volusia County is seeking public input via a short online survey as it evaluates long-term shoreline management options.  

Daytona Beach ranked No. 9 among U.S. growth cities in 2025, according to the U-Haul Growth Index

 

Save the Date

  • DB University Citizens Academy returns starting Thursday, March 19. Registration will open soon; the 10-week program is free.

In the Works (Project Updates)

  • Midtown Recreation Complex Playground: Playground and fitness equipment installation is nearing completion
  • Riverfront Park Day Dock & Manatee Island Floating Dock Repairs: Work is underway following hurricane damage, including structural dock repairs and electrical updates.
  • Orange Avenue Recreation Center Demolition: Demolition and environmental remediation remain in progress; asbestos was identified through sampling and demolition began in late December 2025.

 Daytona Beach Turns 150 – Sesquicentennial Kickoff

  • The city has officially launched its 150th anniversary celebration, marking 150 years since incorporation.
  • Throughout 2026, the city will highlight the people, places and moments that shaped Daytona Beach.
  • Look for #DB150 banners and other visible reminders throughout the city, plus a series of historical social media features.
  • A dedicated DB150 website is live and will continue expanding with historical content and upcoming events; residents and visitors are encouraged to participate using #DB150 and #150WorldFamousDB.

  • F.R.E.S.H. Book Film Festival (tickets required): Jan. 29 at 7 p.m., BCU Performing Arts Center
  • MLK Community Health & Resource Fair (free): Jan. 10, 9 a.m. to noon, Daisy Stocking Park
  • Midtown Sundayz (free): Jan. 11, 3–8 p.m., Daisy Stocking Park.
  • Pinewood Cemetery Clean Up (free): Jan. 11, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Pinewood Cemetery
