The Daytona Beach Main Street Arch, a symbol of Daytona Beach’s rich history, is under construction. The iconic arch, which has connected the boardwalk and pier since the 1930s, holds decades of memories for locals and tourists. As a unique piece of the city's history, the over $800,000 restoration project seeks to bring new life to the arch while preserving its original character.
Restoration efforts began when engineers discovered exterior cracking of the arch. Once crews assessed the arch, they identified deteriorated steel and concrete inside the historic arch. A comprehensive restoration plan was created and is now underway for the nearly 90-year-old landmark.
Crews have recently completed prep work for stucco in the south walkway and installed new electrical conduits. They're currently working on finishing the coquina stone on the arch’s east face. Once crews complete that side, they will start coquina work on the west face. Leaks to the slab at the top of the arch were discovered and are in the process of being sealed up. The project is anticipated to be finished this summer.
