Construction of the new Fire Station No. 1 is progressing steadily at its new location, 420 S. Ridgewood Ave. This modern facility will replace the station’s longtime home at 301 S. Beach Street, which served the community for a century.
Designed to improve emergency response times, the new station will also bring administrative personnel under one roof and allow continued operations during severe weather. Key features include an 80-seat community room, which will also serve as the city’s primary emergency operations center and a higher-ground location to reduce the risk of flooding.
A major milestone was recently achieved with the placement of all 62 concrete wall pieces.
Significant progress continues at the new Fire Station headquarters on Ridgewood Avenue. The roof has been poured, and interior framing is nearing completion on the first floor, with framing underway on the second floor. Electrical and plumbing rough-ins are also in progress throughout the building. In the coming weeks, crews will pour the slab in the apparatus bay and south building, complete the roof, and begin installing water lines and stormwater piping
