The Daytona Beach Main Street Arch, a symbol of Daytona Beach’s rich history, is under construction. The iconic arch, which has connected the boardwalk and pier since the 1930s, holds decades of memories for locals and tourists. As a unique piece of the city's history, the over $800,000 restoration project seeks to bring new life to the arch while preserving its original character.
Restoration efforts began when engineers discovered exterior cracking of the arch. Once crews assessed the arch, they identified deteriorated steel and concrete inside the historic arch. A comprehensive restoration plan was created and is now underway for the nearly 90-year-old landmark.
Crews are starting to build the formwork for the concrete pours and continuing to cut coquina stone for the arch's exterior. Roughly 80% of the stonework has been cut. Concrete will be poured in the coming weeks. Construction is expected to be finished by the end of summer. While under construction, the arch will be closed to the public. Visitors can still access the boardwalk and businesses along Main Street.
