The Daytona Beach Main Street Arch, a symbol of Daytona Beach’s rich history, is under construction. The iconic arch, which has connected the boardwalk and pier since the 1930s, holds decades of memories for locals and tourists. As a unique piece of the city's history, the over $800,000 restoration project seeks to bring new life to the arch while preserving its original character.
Restoration efforts began when engineers discovered exterior cracking of the arch. Once crews assessed the arch, they identified deteriorated steel and concrete inside the historic arch. A comprehensive restoration plan was created and is now underway for the nearly 90-year-old landmark.
Work on the iconic Main Street Arch is entering its final phase and wrapping up this month! Crews are finishing the stonework on the decorative fountain area and stairway on the north side, as well as repairing a damaged expansion joint on the top walkway. Recent progress includes completing the interior stucco on the north inside walls and the installation of the front sign. The last steps will be applying an epoxy coating to the handrails on the top walkway and completing stucco and painting on the lower level.
