Daytona Beach will recognize Purple Heart recipients during a special ceremony at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, in the Commission Chambers at City Hall, 301 S. Ridgewood Ave.
Mayor Derrick L. Henry, city officials and community veteran organizations will join together to honor the sacrifices of combat-wounded service members. The Purple Heart is the oldest military award still presented to American service members. National Purple Heart Day is observed Thursday, Aug. 7.
The ceremony is presented by the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 316, Zone 4 City Commissioner Stacy Cantu and Zone 3 City Commissioner Quanita May. The public is encouraged to attend and show support for these brave men and women.
