The 40th annual International Coastal Cleanup is coming to Volusia County Saturday, Sept. 20, from 8 to 11 a.m. and volunteers are invited to be part of this global effort to protect our waterways and coastlines. More than 20 cleanup sites are planned along the beach, Halifax River and Indian River. Last year, 1,562 volunteers collected 8,500 pounds of trash and organizers are aiming to set a new record this year. Volunteers should bring garden gloves, a refillable water bottle and trash grabbers. All other supplies will be provided. Registration is now open at www.volusia.org/cleanup.
The first 1,200 people to preregister will receive a limited-edition 40th anniversary International Coastal Cleanup giveaway and a native tree, while supplies last. Tree pickup locations include Michael Crotty Bicentennial Park in Ormond-by-the-Sea, City Island Park and the Marine Discovery Center in New Smyrna Beach. Join the effort to keep our coast clean, protect wildlife, and make a positive impact on the community.
